Message from Andre about Sunday’s event:

This Sunday we played the 2022 Club Championship. Given the (late) time of the year, we opted for a different format, playing a swiss tournament in Allegro time control.

A total of 14 players took part, with Willie Rutherford taking the top spot with 4.5 / 5.  Tom Leah followed second with 3.5 and David Archibald third with 3.5.

Congratulations Willie !

Next season we hope to resume the usual Championship / Challengers model, I’ll be sending an email after the Summer.

Dear Chess Players,

We’ll be proceeding with the Edinburgh Chess Club Allegro Championship this Sunday (26th of June).

It will be a swiss system, open to all club players, starting at 11 am, at 1 Alva St. The number of rounds will be decided on the day, depending on the number of players (I expect a total of 5 games). Time control will be 25 minutes per players.

I will be organizing the pairing on the same day (registration to the tournament will be done at the club on the day, too).

If you have any questions, feel free to reach me out.

Thanks!

Andre Antunes, Tournament Administrator

To all,

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well and an update regarding Chess Edinburgh and Lothian’s.

Chess in the Park

There will be a delay to the start of this year’s Chess in the Park as new picnic tables have been ordered and unfortunately as yet not arrived.  Once delivered, they require to be assembled.

Currently at the Fountain Cafe, there are twelve picnic tables, however not enough in order to start Chess in the Park.

Once resolved, likely by late April, we meet every Thursday and Sunday 2 – 5 pm, at the Fountain Cafe, until the end of October.

Sets and clocks will be available on site, once we begin.  Those players that bring their own Chess equipment are guaranteed a game and are able to continue after the official 5 pm closing time until Princes Street Gardens closes.

Leagues

Our Council is elected to serve the Member Clubs wishes in which we require to abide by our rules and Constitution which are available via our Website.

Clubs made the decision at their AGM from a vote or by mutual agreement what as a Club they were planning to do in which their players made the decision.

Our Council have yet to meet and decide as to what is going to happen with the outstanding fixtures both for the Leagues and Lothian’s Championship.

When all the Clubs are playing over the Board Chess is when the leagues can resume.  This is conditional and subject to any restrictions imposed by the Scottish Government.
