  • Monday Afternoons – Club Open!

    In our recent member survey interest was expressed in the club opening during the daytime – so we’re trialling opening the club up on Monday afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm.

    Depending on turnout you can play friendlies, analyse one of your games with everyone or take part in rapid-play competitions.

    We’ll try this out during February and March.  It would be useful – but not essential – if you register that you’ll be coming.  If for any reason we ‘re unable to open we’ll try and ensure registrants are informed..

    Give it a try!

  • She Plays To Win Scottish Invitational – Round 1 (3pm)

    IM Lorin D’Costa from She Plays To Win (SPTW), with support from Edinburgh Chess Club, is running a 5 round, 20 board, FIDE rated invitational event over 3 days during half-term next February (12th-14th) aimed at girls and women.

    Rounds:
    Monday 12th Rd 1 – 3 pm
    Tuesday 13th Rd 2 – 9.30 am
    Tuesday 13th Rd 3 – 3.00 pm
    Wednesday 14th Rd 4 – 9.30 am
    Wednesday 14th Rd 5 – 2.30 pm

    IM Lorin D’Costa from She Plays To Win (SPTW), with support from Edinburgh Chess Club, is running an open training session for girls and women.

    Lorin is a professional chess coach helping children of all chess strengths to enjoy and play the game of chess. He also runs She Plays to Win (SPTW) a UK girls’ chess project to try and encourage more girls to learn, play and benefit from chess (further details of SPTW can be found at https://www.sheplaystowin.co.uk/).

    The event is open to girls and women for free however please register so that we can judge numbers attending.

    (Note that the club is hosting a five round SPTW International Invitational event from Monday 12th to Wednesday 14th February where a dozen international juniors are paticipating.  There are still some free spaces available so any girls or women with a FIDE rating are welcome to contact Lorin asap @ sheplaystowinuk@gmail.com if they are interested in playing.)

    International Master Lorin D’Costa: England Women’s Chess Coach, Presenter & Author

    We are delighted that Lorin has agreed give a talk to the club on the topic “From She Plays To Win to Magnus Carlsen”.  Please register your attendance so we can ensure enough chairs are set out!

    Lorin is a professional chess coach helping children of all chess strengths to enjoy and play the game of chess. He also runs She Plays to Win (SPTW) a UK girls’ chess project to try and encourage more girls to learn, play and benefit from chess (further details of SPTW can be found at https://www.sheplaystowin.co.uk/).

    All members can attend for free however there is a £5 charge (£2.50 for concessions) for non members payable online.
