Please note that the closing date for entry to the 2010/11 Club Championship is 7pm on Thursday 31st March.  The draw for the first round will take place at the club later that evening, and will be posted on the club noticeboard and blog along with a confirmed schedule of dates.

The Club Championship will follow the same format as recent years, commencing in April.  If there’s sufficient interest we will also run a “Late Season” tournament – format to be determined depending on the number of entries, starting in March.

Club competitions are open to Full Members (Town, Country, Concessionary, Junior).  Associate Members wishing to participate can upgrade their membership.

Draw for Final:

Shivan Murdochy vs David Archibald

(to be played at the club, proposed date Sunday 4th July, game 1 to start at 11am)

Members are welcome to attend to spectate.

Semi Final Results:

The battle to get to the final was hard fought with both games running to tie-breaks, although not in the same scale of the recent 70-68 Isner-Mahut result at Wimbledon.

Shivan Murdochy 1 – 1 Keith Aitchison, with Shivan winning the tie break 1-1 (allegro), 2-0 (blitz).

David Archibald 1 – 1 Rod Cranston, with David winning the tie break 2-0 (allegro)

Grading:

All full-length games played in the championship have been submitted for SCA grading to appear in the new grading list.

A few games from the 2009 championships have also been included that were played after last year’s deadline.

Final:

I was considering approaching the National Museum of Scotland to see if they would consider allowing us to play the final in the exhibition area holding the Lewis Chessmen (with a small partition) – perhaps involving the press? Please let me know if you think this is a good idea?
I’m keen to get this played before the end of the month so that all games can be submitted before the July grading deadline. If you are potentially in the final please could you let me know which weekend dates suit (provisionally we have Sunday June 20th).
